When modern infantry is deployed, it is either deployed in helicopters as Airborne troops or in APCs as mechanized infantry, both of which are much better supported than paratroopers. ![]() The primary advantage of paratroopers was that it combined the ability of infantry to take and hold objectives with the mobility of an aircraft. Paratroopers are not heavily used nowadays because helicopters can ferry them to their target just as quickly, provide air support, and make for a quick extraction if things get too dicey or they need to be deployed in another combat zone. ![]() ![]() Paratroopers were a huge part of WWII, but is that form of warfare still used today? Are there paratroopers who jump into Iraq? I can't find much on the subject.
